History: Stockton made it to the California League playoff finals in 1953, but were beaten by San Jose. Pitcher Tony Freitas wrapped up his 25-year playing career in Stockton, leading the league with 22 wins. Freitas is one of baseball's winningest left-handed pitchers, but had not played in a major league game since 1936. He played for the Sacramento Solons for many years and went on to manage Sacramento after his stint with Stockton.
